I thought

I had finally found what I was looking for all this time.
What a shame it was when I found out you were just like all the rest.
I should've known all along, your condescending pretentiousness,
thinly veiled by your false sincerity.
Just a pretty face, you claim ownership of too much that you're not.
I don't want to hear another nice word come out of your mouth.
Because I know you won't mean it.

The Sound of Settling

Goddamn it. Fuck everything. Fuck everyone.

Fuck transplant hipsters and trust-fund babies. Pretentious sacks of shit, diluting our culture. Fuck Williamsburg. In fact, fuck all of New York City. I'm sick of this place. Not my home anymore. Fuck pseudo-intellectual teenagers who think they're some sort of revolutionary. Change the world with your mind? Gonna write? Make art? Make music? Go fuck yourself. Fuck all of these new 'indie' bands. Same old garbage from every last one of them. Not impressed. Fuck people with shitty taste in music who now listen to indie rock and think they're so hip. Get with the times, kid. Fuck the New York Times. Fuck the mass media, political debates, McCain, Palin, and all you right wing assholes. Fuck you kids who claim to be liberal but all just in a futile effort to look educated and cool. You probably don't even know what entails when Obama speaks of change. Fuck off.

Fuck my whole goddamn waste of youth. A whole generation born to be nothing more than consumer sheep, buying and wasting. A whole generation of apathetic assholes who do nothing but feed the corporate machine. We are in a new Great Depression. Build some fucking character. Nothing surprises or inspires me anymore. I want that to change.

Modern World

Went into the city to buy paint and got hit by another fucking car on Sunday. I'm trailing this cab and this lady hails it over. I think, no biggie, I'll just pass on the left. I start to head left and this asshole in his god-awful SUV clips my back wheel and I swerve into the back of the cab head on. I do sort of a front flip twist and land on my back with my feet still in the toe clips, no less! Unfortunately, my bike took the hit this time. My front wheel's all bent up, my bars and front brake are loose, and my saddle's all twisted to the side. At least I'm getting a new wheelset soon. I've also been meaning to try out those Brooks Swift saddles every fixie rider's been raving about. Maybe get some riser bars too. Who knows. If I didn't get hit, I would've made it to Supreme in time before they closed. Just my fucking luck. At least I'll have more money to spend on my bike now. Joy.

An Animal in Your Care

I dreamt a few days ago that I was swimming. Out in the open sea.
Free of my fears. Free of my worries. Free of my doubts.
For the first time in my life, I felt at peace with myself and with everything around me.
I only have you to thank.

This Charming Man

So the past week has been nothing but muggy, humid and rainy. I keep going to these cool places and always manage to forget my camera. Whatever, point-and-shoots suck anyway. I think one of the funniest things here is that cigarette packs have this label of warning on them: "Smoking Kills," and "Smoking Seriously Harms You and Others Around You" in big bold black letters. It's so big it even covers up some of the logo. You don't get that over in the states. I also finally succumbed to digital and ordered a Canon Rebel XTi with a wide angle lens. I can't wait to get back and use it. My good friend Frankie's also opening up shop soon in NYC so I'm pretty psyched about shooting photos for him and chilling at the shop. Keep an eye out for it this winter! I also found a brand new wheelset for my bike. Deep V mothafuckas!!!

Reporting Live from Shanghai

Nothing really exciting to say except seeing family is really nice. There are so many places to shop and meander. Nightlife (psh clubs are full of lame shitheads), art galleries, bookstores, restaurants and not to mention there are bikes EVERYWHERE. I love it. The bike lanes are blocked off my a steel divider from the cars. I wish I brought my bike, but then again, I wish I was back in New York again. I'll update with pictures if I can manage to remember my camera. I have also developed a love for karaoke. Til next time, folks.

You know that I'm the rebel, throwin' out the wicked like god did the devil

So today was Rock the Bells. It was outstanding. On top of the already stellar lineup, which included hosts Supernatural, B-Real and DJs Scratch and Green Lantern, Kidz in the Hall, Dead Prez, De La Soul, THE PHARCYDE, Mos Def, Ghostface & Raekwon, Method Man & Redman, Immortal Technique, Murs, Afrika Bambaataa, Nas and A Tribe Called Quest, guest stars cme in by the boatload. Literally. There was Black Sheep, Slick Rick, Cappadonna, Inspectah Deck, Talib Kweli came out for Mos Def, so technically it turned into a Blackstar performance, EPMD, Jay-Z came out for Nas, and Busta Rhymes came out for Tribe. Amazing. Now I have to get ready for China which I don't even want to go to. Fuck!

Stinging Velvet

The past few days have been really life changing. I haven't been home since Thursday night. I finally started riding again. I'll tell ya, it's the greatest feeling in the world to be weaving in and out of traffic, dodging cars and pedestrians. Oh riding's pretty neat too.

Yesterday I finally got around to picking up a decent bike. It was the best deal I've ever gotten on Craigslist. $250 for a vintage converted fixed/ss flip-flop hub with Cinelli bars and toe clips. That thing rides like a dream. Of course I took it for a ride around the city as soon as I picked it up, and went over to Williamsburg and rode around McCarren, Lorimer and Grand..all that jazz. It was a blast and as I was coming back over the bridge to meet up with some old skate buddies, going 40mph, only to lose my hat on the tracks, this white (unmarked) van comes turning out of the intersection and slams right into me. I was fine, but the driver was a plainclothes cop. He was really calm and nice about it though, asking me if I was ok and helping me pick up my bike. I rode off with a few scrapes and bruises, but the bike was fine. The funniest thing was when I got back into the LES, I was sitting in front of a deli pouring hydrogen peroxide and water all over my arms and legs and hipsters and tourists would look at me like I was out of my mind. My bars are kinda loose now and I need to adjust my front brake, but it's nothing big. After I got back on the island, we hung out at Joe's house because I didn't feel like going to Soho and have myself swarmed by pretentious hipster assholes. We went over to Rob's house, drank some beers and rode back to Joe's.

Today, we rode down to the ferry, and then up the LES, crossed over to the west side highway and up into Central Park. We rode around a lot, and I raced a lot of yuppie assholes one their $2k bikes, and checked out the show at Summerstage. I don't know who was playing but it was nice. After that, we ride some more and Joe decides to keep going. Of course, it starts to rain hot dog water and we get caught right in the middle. We then decide it would be a good idea to start heading into Queens to Mike's party. We get there and had a good time. Drank a bunch and had sing-a-longs to the Clash and Ella Fitzgerald. It was fun.

We rode back and on the train ride to Joe's house on SI, there was this drunk asshole shooting his mouth off about how much he hates "niggers" and will "rip one's head off if they get on the train." Of course, a sweet elderly couple board the train and he immediately gets in the husband's face. They start to argue and yell, but luckily, they weren't as ignorant as he was and his friend was sober enough to pull him away. This is the reason why I want to leave Staten Island. Bigotry is allowed to run rampant through the streets, and I really can't take much more. I really need to move anywhere but here. I hear Brooklyn's nice. Maybe Portland or Boston too.

Now, here I am, eating yogurt at 5am. We rode at least 20 miles and my whole body is achy. Getting hit by that van didn't help much. My neck's kinda stiff, my knees are weak and my right hand hurts. Whatever, you just keep on going. Today's Rock the Bells and Joe managed to get vip tickets through his job. He better take pictures of me with Q-Tip and Pharcyde. Yay.

I also realized how much I love Neko Case and the Aquabats and don't want to go to China because I'd rather be here with my favorite. I'm sorry if I was a jerk for the past several days. <3

"I'm Fine.."

I really hate my life. I always try my goddamn hardest to make the people that I care about happy, and it's usually at my own expense. I comfort people, I give them advice, I always make sure that they're ok. It would be really nice if I at least got some sort of recognition once in a while for the things I do for people. But I guess that's the way I'm destined to live. A perpetual silent hero. I even feel guilty about calling myself a hero. I don't deserve that. In the end, everyone else will be happy except me, and I don't think there really will be anything that could change that and it terrifies me. I try to step out of my element as much as possible so maybe at least I can be happy for a change, but I always fall back into this self-loathing state because I'm always a little bit unhappier when I see other people unhappy. Whatever, I fucking give up. I always try to do my best, maybe I falter sometimes or often but I give all that I can give. I'm sorry if I let people down. I'm not perfect but I know I do try my hardest to make everyone's lives a little bit more bearable. I want to seek guidance, but I know nobody will truly understand me for who I am, or worse, care enough to help. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm sorry.

Come Back Margaret

I have a feeling that the reason why people are so put off by me is that I'm so unsure of what I plan to do with my future. Just a thought that's been brewing in my head.

Happy Birthday America

Fuck you.

You're not hip. You're not cool. You're not trendy. You're not righteous.
Don't try to play yourself off like you are. You're not fooling anyone sweetheart.

You have bad taste in art. You have bad taste in music. You have bad taste in fashion.
You love all these artists and all these musicians, but deep down, you only do because it's the cool thing to do. Admit it.

You're not an artist. You're not a musician. You're not a poet. You're not anything.
You're just a pretentious, condescending, untalented elitist cunt. Drifting your way through life having everything hand fed to you on a silver spoon.

Go fuck yourself and your fucking clique.

OH!! I'm also getting my tattoo tomorrow!!
YAY!

Steadier Footing

We went to eat dinner on Monday at this amazing Italian place on like 50th. I forgot what it was called but whatevvvvs. Um, Tuesday headed out to Williamsburg for Henry's show at Trash Bar. It's a lovely bar in a lovely neighborhood, but the hipster trash is almost unbearable. Anyway, I missed his band's set and we wound up going to this weird warehouse/sports arena party in Bushwick. There were mad breezies up in there. I don't remember what I did with any of them, but it sure as hell wasn't good. I smoked and drank a lot. We bounced right before the cops shut it down and walked the streets of Brooklyn talking about smoking crystal meth. I crashed at Henry's place with his two friends Olivia and Christine I think. I woke up to his cat licking my nose haha. Adam got off work at 3 so I got a Razzmatazz and it was FUCKING AMAZING! New favorite flavor. After he got out, I went and picked up my board and saw his friend's RIDICULOUS surprise in his apartment. Let's just say it smelled heavenly. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a shitty Motorola phone to replace and a cigarette to smoke.

Can You Stay Up to See the Dawn in the Colors of Benneton?

Their stuff is so preppy, but goddamn, their models look like idiots. Anyway, two weeks for my new frames!

Lindsay was in town so we grabbed dinner with Carlos, Kevin, Mikey and Zuzanna. I don't remember where, but it was goooooood. I met this cute girl at Union and bummed a cigarette. Seemed kinda pretentious, but hey, everyone is nowadays. Yuppie hipster scumbags, get outta my city!

The Kids don't Stand a Chance

Holy shit. What an awesome past two days. Friday went into the city to skate around for a bit, then met up with Jon, Adam and his band, then headed to his show. They put on a pretty awesome set, as well as the next band, which Jon apparently is friends with. Anyway, after, hung around Union and watched people then headed to someone's place on 17th, fucking nice ass loft. Rolled a FAT blunt and smoked that shit on the roof. We drove back up to 123 & Amsterdam and I got an ill pastrami/ham sandwich. We ate, watched some Jackass (<3 Knoxville) and slept. I woke up hot and uncomfortable because I changed my alarm to Intergalactic and wasn't used to it. Walked up the block to the train and noticed Adam left his car double-parked on the corner overnight. LOL (he got it back). Went down to 59th, grabbed some lunch and headed over to Summerstage. As I'm waiting on line, it starts to pour. At first it wasn't so bad because it was humid as shit, but it came down HARD. So I decided not to wait for any people and cut the line. Fucking bumped into Dave and Henry on the way in. haha. Anyway, Born Ruffians were awesome, Kid Sister was eh, but A-Trak was on deck to set shit off, and of course, Vampire Weekend was amazing. Seeing everyone dancing together to APunk was a nice feeling. Anyway, I'm tired and my glasses are falling apart..so I'm gonna watch a movie.

Friday, June 13, 2008

Today was a Good Day

Put some new music on my iPod, walked and hung around Union, met some new and old faces. Pretty fucking awesome. But when I got home, my fucking glasses broke, but you know what, I ain't mad. Woot.

I hate being helpless and not in control in my dreams

Seriously, it's the worst fucking feeling in the world to wake up after a bad dream. Not to mention for the past week. It also seems that whenever I manage to find something that makes me happy, it gets taken away from me within a few days, so I'm in this endless struggle to find happiness, but I'm afraid that I'll never be able to fully grasp it. Fuck my life. I'll believe horoscopes when I see some proof goddamnit.

Sunday, June 8, 2008

"I'm way too hip to be talking to you, so I'll just condescendingly stare at you as you walk past me."

Knitting factory was packed with way too many pretentious cooler-than-thou hipster kids for my taste. But otherwise, Cool Kids, Mickey and Heavy Music were solid. Fuck not being able to chill on a stoop while smoking my cigarettes.

Right past the Fireflies that Sleep in My Heart

Last night I went out to some bars with Kevin and Mikey. Carlos left earlier but I wish he was there with me. I think Bar Nine was the one we landed on, and proceeded to get drunk. Actually, we got pretty wasted and I talked about some shit that I really shouldn't have. The combination of the puking, loss of motor skills and crying really made me feel shitty for the rest of the night. And not to mention I was having a pretty deep existentialist meltdown too about my place in the universe. I don't even know why I felt the need to even fucking blog about it. I guess it just feels therapeutic to let it out. Well, this past week has been nice and the rest of the summer does look promising. I think I can drink to that..sans the bad feelings. Now I'm leaving Kevin's house and have class from 6-9 later today and thursdays too. Awesome.

As I Look Upon the Myriad Harbour

The past few months, especially the last couple of weeks, has probably been some of the best in my life. Sometimes I want to cry about all the fucked up shit in my life and the world around me, but now I feel like I'm finally on my way to finding myself. I've met so many good people and I'm grateful that they're in my life. Now that I think about it, I can't wait for this summer and the rest of my life. Good people, good food, good music, good books and good art.

For the first time in my life, I feel hopeful about the future.
Thank you!
<3

i wrote "my life" in that exact succession too many times. haha

Pass the Wine

I went for a walk today and thought about some things. More so my existence in this world. Is there a purpose for my being? For living? Sometimes I feel like I'm giving so much to people who don't even care how I am. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I did things differently. Whatever, I want this semester to be over with.

Maybe this summer New York will be kind to me..

New Chrome Messenger Bag!

My brand new Chrome Citizen bag came in the mail yesterday. It's comfortable beyond belief. I didn't expect it to be as big as it was. Enough space for cigarettes, books and water! I might opt for the Kremlin or Sultan Roll-top bag this summer, providing I do more traveling and build a new fixie or ss.

Here's a link because I don't have my camera with me. Pictures and maybe more in-depth review as I test it to follow.

My new love!

Peter Gronquist at Gallery 1988

HAHAHA YES!
I completely forgot about this!

Over the years, we've seen fashion powerhouses put their own signatures and styles on all kinds of products, but Peter Gronquist's display of embellished weapons at LA's Gallery 1988 is definitely a first. The exhibition showcases an arsenal of weapons including AK's, rifles, chainsaws, grenades, and even electric chairs. All these instruments of death are covered with patterns and logos from labels such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Versace, Coach, Burberry, Fendi, and Dolce & Gabbana. The exhibition only lasts till May 16th, so go check it out if you're ever in LA.

I am the man who loves you

The news was broken to me by my roommate this morning that Stephen Stakey, a freshman, died yesterday at the Roth Regatta.

Here is the exert from Stephen's About Me Section:

"Well I'm Stephen (insert one of many nicknames here). I am a computer science major at Stony Brook University. I am a lavagator. I spend too much time on my computer, but I love tweaking and building them and just learning about them in general. I was valedictorian of my class at Mattituck High School (yay monopoly money!) and love intellectual conversations (especially when it comes to computers and hacking) and the North Fork.

I am a bit quiet and shy, but that usually doesn't last too long with new people. I am a blogger who just sometimes can't understand the rest of the world and it's technology decisions. I am a former Microsoft MVP which explains the seemingly endless supply of free software I have.

Why not friend me?"

Stephen Stakey passed out yesterday, 5/2/08, at mid-day for unknown reasons. He passed out at the Stony Brook Regatta, and the amazing Stony Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corps reacted in seconds stabilizing him and rushing him off to the Stony Brook Hospital. We then recieved word shortly after that he had died at the hospital, the reason still unknown pending an autopsy.

Shit like this really makes me grateful that I'm still alive.
Go out and appreciate life.
My thoughts are with his family and friends. R.I.P.

Keith Haring 50th Birthday Memorial

For Keith Haring's 50th birthday on May 4th, the Deitch Projects with the help of Goldman Properties, the Keith Haring Foundation and Gotham Scenics have reproduced one of Haring's most stunning pieces in his illustrious career. The huge wall only lasted a few months before it was painted over but it would go down in art and neighborhood history as one of the most memorable works for its vivid colors and trademark Haring aesthetics. The wall was painstakingly redone via old archival photographs taken during the wall's original inception in 1982. The wall will be on display from May 4th until December 21st at Houston St. and Bowery in New York.

I actually has the privilege of watching this beautiful wall being painted about two weeks ago. This will do the man proud.

One Nation Under CCTV

So in my art class we watched a brief interview with Barry McGee and I realized why graffiti was such an important part of my life.

I haven't felt this inspired to do something like this in a long time.

I have my paint and my ideals and that's all I need.

Slick x Roger Waters Pig at Coachella

Music and art have always gone hand in hand when it comes to collaborations. While graffiti is always viewed as being closely tied to hip-hop culture, it can just work just as well in a rock setting. OG graf head Slick did up this giant inflatable pig for Roger Waters (of Pink Floyd fame) for Sunday Night's Coachella show. The pig (representing a critique of capitalist greed) was used as a giant prop that emerged when he played a version of "Pigs".

On a related note it's reported that concert organizers are offering $10,000 for the safe return of the inflatable pig, as well as 4 lifetime Coachella passes. If you have any info on it's whereabouts please email lostpig@coachella.com

Note to self,
